I am very humbled to be asked by the Prime Minister Scott Morrison to serve in his ministry as Assistant Minister for Waste Reduction and Environmental Management.
I look forward to working closely in this portfolio with my friend and colleague, the Hon Sussan Ley MP, as a strong advocate for protecting Australia’s environment.
In particular, I look forward to working hard to build on the Coalition’s record of practical action on waste and recycling, the protection of our rivers, waterways and coasts, support for our threatened and migratory native species, and other key conservation priorities.
I also look forward to working with the various State and Territory Environment Ministers to deliver and implement our important reform agenda on waste and recycling.
As I said in my First Speech, as Australians we must take very seriously the responsibility that comes with having the custodianship of both a nation and a continent, which in many ways is an environmental sanctuary.
Lastly, but most importantly, I would like to thank the people in the electorate of Brisbane for putting their faith in me. Serving in the ministry is only possible because of the wonderful support given to me by my local community, and they will always remain my first priority.
